Tour summary

This exceptional full-day private tour captures the very essence of Provence, taking you on a journey through Roman ingenuity, medieval heritage, and the celebrated wines of the Southern Rhône Valley.

Your day begins at the magnificent Pont du Gard, the world's best-preserved Roman aqueduct. Built in the 1st century AD, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was once the tallest bridge ever constructed by the Romans and carried fresh water over 50 kilometres to the ancient city of Nîmes, supplying more than 20,000 inhabitants.

From here, travel to the charming medieval town of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, peacefully set on the western bank of the Rhône. Overlooking the historic city of Avignon, it offers spectacular panoramic views across the valley and a fascinating glimpse into medieval Provence. It was here that the famous Pont Saint-Bénézet once reached the imposing Tour Philippe-le-Bel, the 13th-century fortress that guarded the entrance to the kingdom of France.

Enjoy a guided stroll through the town before visiting the remarkable Chartreuse du Val de Bénédiction, founded by Pope Innocent VI in the 14th century. One of the largest Carthusian monasteries in France, it is a masterpiece of medieval architecture, featuring elegant cloisters, tranquil gardens, monks' cells, chapels, and beautiful frescoes by the Italian artist Matteo Giovannetti. Villeneuve-lès-Avignon is also the perfect place to pause for lunch, with a choice of charming cafés and traditional Provençal restaurants set among its quiet streets and leafy squares.

In the afternoon, continue north through the vineyards of the Southern Rhône to the prestigious wine village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, home to some of France's most renowned wines. Your day concludes with a visit to one of the region's finest estates, where you'll enjoy a guided tour of the vineyard and cellar, followed by a tasting of its exceptional wines.

Combining Roman history, medieval splendour, breathtaking scenery, and world-class wine, this carefully curated experience offers an unforgettable introduction to the rich heritage and timeless beauty of Provence.
