The most fascinating, intriguing & magical hilltop villages of the Luberon from Gordes to Roussillon, Goult, Bonnieux to Lourmarin & its 15th century Château de Lourmarin
Tour summary
Named after the mountain range between Cavaillon & Manosque, the Luberon is a Provençal patchwork of hilltop villages, vineyards, ancient abbeys & mile after mile of fragrant lavender fields. A rural region that makes time for the good things in life – especially food & wine. Nearly every village hosts its own weekly market, packed with stalls selling local specialities, olive oil, honey and lavender. Our journey begins with a visit to Gordes. This picturesque village, renowned for its stunning stone houses and winding cobblestone streets, invites you to explore the rich history and vibrant culture of the Luberon. Onwards to Roussillon best known for its distinctive red cliffs, created by the world’s largest known ochre deposit. The large quarries of Roussillon were mined from the end of the 18th century until 1930. From here we head towards the lesser know village of Goult, time to explore the village and time for lunch in one of the village restaurants. After lunch a short drive to Bonnieux via the Roman bridge through the Luberon massif & cliff-lined Combe de Lourmarin into the village of Lourmarin itself. Once a quiet farming town, now its streets are lined with upmarket design shops, galleries & boutiques. Apart from walking around the village, you can't miss out on a visit to the Renaissance Château de Lourmarin.
