Provence - Mont Sainte Victoire in search of Cézanne, private wine tour

Tour summary

This is a great day out for lovers of fine wine and looking to discover the unique Mont Sainte Victoire wine region. Leaving Aix-en-Provence, we head south through the national park -  Mont St Victoire, a symbol of Provence rises over 1000 meters behind the rolling landscape and vineyards close to the historic Provençal village of Puyloubier. First a visit to Château Grand Boise and learn about the production and an opportunity to taste some of their finest wines.  On our way, we stop off for a visit to Domaine de St Ser, a smaller unique bio-diversity wine producer. The vineyard is at the highest point sitting against the steep backdrop of the Mountain with its intense sunshine and dry arid mediterranean climate. A pause for lunch on the village square next to the fountain before our third and final wine tasting experience of the day - Domaine Terre de Mistral that produces more rustic wines and olive oil.

Tour itinerary

Depending on where we meet, we head through the Provence countryside to visit Château Grand Boise, a visit to the Chais (the production unit) wine tasting and a chance to absorb the atmosphere of this award winning vineyard. From here we head south, touching the outskirts of Aix-en-Provence for a leisurely drive across the south face of Mount St Victoire. The drive is exceptional as we then drive into our second vineyard - Domaine de St Ser. This is a much smaller family owned winery which uses traditional methods as well as planetary positions and charts to drive the entire process. The wine is light, robust and very dirfferent to the first vineyard. Next drive to the village of Puyloubier, time to stop for a light leisurely lunch in the village square under the shade of the Plain trees and the fountain. (lunch not included) Afterwards time to explore the village before we depart for our third vineyard, Domaine Terre de Mistral, which offers a totally different variety of wines, an excellent shop selling a range of local produce and their own olive oil. Then return to our start location.
