Tour summary
If your a lover of fine wines & want to experience a special day visiting some of the best vineyards of Châteauneuf du Pape, including Château Fortia who's history dates back to the 17th century and in the 19th century under the ownership of Baron Le Roy, created France's first AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) it's the world standard for wine. Time to stop for lunch in the adorable French restaurant in the village. Châteauneuf du Pape is the heart of a region full of history, culture and joie de vivre. At the summit stands the ruined château built by the popes in 14th century as a summer residence to escape the city heat of Avignon. The popes planted the town's first vineyards. During the afternoon a visit to two very different vineyards - first a winemaker with a 8ha vineyard based exclusively on the appellation & second a family estate owned by six generations of wine producers including Lirac & Gigondas. An introduction to the iconic Châteauneuf du Pape wines that produce wine where tradition is enhanced by modernism & excellence, and tasting of course. This is an exceptional day out with quite a few surprises along the way. On the way back a stop-off to visit a local artisan chocolate maker.
